“Double Trouble” is a 1947 Century Seamaid that my grandfather (Bill) and my father (Craig) restored back in 1998-1999. The boat was named “Double Trouble” after my sister and me.
My grandfather attempted to buy this boat many times from his friend, who had it hung in his garage rafters. When his friend decided to get rid of the boat, my grandfather traded a Model T for it. My grandfather and father did a really good job at restoring this boat. It was sanded down, stained, some wood replaced (most of the wood is original) polished all the stainless, and varnished it. Also when they got the boat, the 6 cylinder gray marine engine was stuck. They dumped oil down the cylinders and worked them back and fourth until they freed the engine.
23-years later, during the winter of 2022, we revarnished and painted the boat again. We pulled the engine, repainted it to its original greenish color (it was painted gray during the 1999 restoration). We also added fiberglass to the bottom of the boat. This will help preserve the boat and prevent the wood from rotting by keeping water out. The boat was cleaned up, revarnished, and repainted, along with a few other small fixes.
